Middlesbrough caretaker manager Steve Agnew has a tall task on his hands if he is going to keep the Teeside club in the Premier League next season. Middlesbrough's last Premier League win came Dec. 17, 3-0 over Swansea in the reverse of this fixture at the Riverside Stadium. What's followed is an 0-4-7 top-flight stretch that included Aitor Karanka losing his manager's job.

There are still some words unspoken from Claudio Ranieri's sacking at Leicester City last month, in large part due to the manager's silence on the subject. The Foxes, though, have climbed to 15th in the table and are six points clear of the bottom three on the strength of a three-match win streak in league play. Additionally, they are still in the Champions League picture, though a daunting two-leg quarterfinal starting April 12 against Spanish side Atletico Madrid looms in the distance.

It's arguably the most crucial two-match stretch of the season for Hull City, who can go a long ways to avoiding the drop if they can emerge with six points from their efforts, starting with Saturday's clash against West Ham United at KCOM Stadium. The Tigers (6-6-17) enter this match day at the top of the drop, three points behind Swansea City for 17th. "When you look at the fixtures elsewhere, you see that Middlesbrough are playing Swansea on Sunday so there will be points dropped there, and if we can get a win against West Ham that can be a big three points, especially with us playing against Middlesbrough next week," defender Curtis Davies said.

With Chelsea already at a canter as champions-elect, the talk has begun about defending the title next season. The intrigue for Crystal Palace, however, lies in the here and now as they visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday desperate for points to avoid relegation. Antonio Conte's Blues have a seemingly unassailable 10-point lead atop the table with 10 matches remaining, and much of the talk in England has gone from who will win the Premier League to who will join Chelsea (22-3-3) in the Champions League next season as the six teams below them are separated by nine points.

Southampton's goal at the outset of the season was to challenge for a Europa League place, and while that isn't likely to come to fruition, they can ensure their place in the top half of the table over the final 10 matches. It's been an inconsistent season for Southampton (9-6-12), and they'll need to rebound from a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur prior to the international break. The Saints, who sit 10th in the table on 33 points, are 2-0-3 in their last five league matches.

The Premier League returns from the international break with a bang as Liverpool and Everton are set to battle in the Merseyside derby Saturday at Anfield. Inconsistency has haunted Liverpool (15-5-7) over the past few seasons and it reared its ugly head again this time around as a poor start to the 2017 calendar year - the Reds went winless in their first five matches - essentially ended their title challenge. James Milner's 51st-minute penalty put the visitors ahead, but Sergio Aguero pulled City level on 69 minutes.

It's now or never for Sunderland as they face Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Rock bottom and seven points from safety, David Moyes' men have to start putting together a run of wins if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation. "Jordan Pickford, Lynden Gooch, Duncan Watmore, Paddy McNair - we have had a group of younger players who have had a go this time.
