NEW YORK (AP) -- Olympic gymnastics star Gabby Douglas was hospitalized Sunday night, forcing her to miss a scheduled appearance with her U.S. teammates at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Thousands of people turned out to welcome gymnasts Aly Raisman and Laurie Hernandez back to their hometowns Saturday after they wowed the judges in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, a ''Rally for Aly'' was held for 22-year-old Raisman, who also won silver medals in the floor exercise and the individual all-around. Raisman arrived at the rally atop a fire truck and on Friday she threw out the first pitch at Fenway Park before the Red Sox game.

Three officials of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) have been arrested in connection with the alleged mismanagement of the country's team at the Rio de Janeiro Games, police officials said Friday. NOCK's secretary general, Francis K. Paul, was detained at Nairobi's Muthaiga Police Station, according to the police officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Swimming star Lilly King is holding her ground on doping. On Friday, A little more than two weeks after the 19-year-old won the first of two Olympic gold medals, King embraced her new role as the unofficial spokeswoman for clean athletes everywhere. Fiji national rugby coach Ben Ryan says he is weighing almost 20 job offers that have poured in since he guided the country to its first-ever gold medal at the Rio de Janiero Olympics. Ryan's contract with the Fiji Rugby Union ends on Sept. 3 and he has resisted all efforts to keep him in the job he has held since 2013. Fiji sports organizations mounted a major effort to raise money to match rival offers for Ryan, but the English coach says money is not the issue and that he is ready for new challenges.

Olympic 100-meter champion Elaine Thompson took center stage in the absence of her Jamaican teammate Usain Bolt in the first Diamond League meet after the Rio de Janeiro Games on Thursday. Russian President Vladimir Putin attacked the ban on his country from the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics as immoral and inhumane on Thursday, while six Russian athletes launched a bid to compete at next month's games as individuals. Russia was suspended on Aug. 7 over what International Paralympic Committee president Philip Craven called a ''medals over morals'' culture with evidence of state-sponsored doping. ''The decision to disqualify our Paralympians is outside the bounds of law, morality and humanity,'' Putin said at an award ceremony for Olympic athletes at the Kremlin.

U.S. women's goalkeeper Hope Solo was suspended Wednesday for six months by U.S. Soccer for disparaging comments about Sweden following the Americans' early departure from the Rio Olympics. Sweden ousted the U.S. 4-3 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw in a quarterfinal match. The 35-year-old Solo, who was previously suspended for 30 days early in 2015 for her conduct, will not be eligible for selection to the national team until February.
