There are many times in my life that I wished I could expect the spiritual to occur all of the time. I wish I could first think not of the obvious, what I may see with my own eyes right before me, but the not so obvious, the deep spiritual reality into which we are all immersed. You know, the type of seeing that comes not from the eyes, but from the heart. Because increasingly, often without my even being aware of it, I can find myself getting sucked into that way of seeing reality that only admits of being able to see those things that are limited to the five senses.
When reading the bible, it is most helpful to gather information to understand what it means. This is important, because while we think of the bible as a single book, it is actually a collection of books. Moreover, these books are written in different styles and literary styles and genres. And, most of us, unless we are fluent in Hebrew or Greek we are reading a translation of the Word of God. Without considering the multiple ways in which understanding of the bible comes about, we can easily miss the point.
