The Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America (SCLA), led by Seattle Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, wishes to express their sadness at the passing of one of the subcommittee’s members, Bishop Cirilo Flores of San Diego.
Bishop Flores, a native of Southern California, had just become the first Hispanic bishop in the Diocese of San Diego last September. The son of an immigrant from the Mexican state of Sinaloa, Bishop Flores spent many years dedicated to the Catholic Church, most notably the care of migrant workers, immigrants, California’s Hispanic population, and allocating resources from the SCLA to pastoral programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Bishop Cirilo Flores and his family, as well as the faithful of the Diocese of San Diego, remain in our prayers.
