I do not like this gospel much. It is filled with commands of Jesus that represent tall orders for those who follow him. Love your enemies. Pray for those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Lend without expecting repayment. Yikes! None of these commands seem even a little bit possible. I do not really want to love my enemy. I do not want to pray for those who hate me. And yet, we are all in the same boat. If we wish to have an eternal relationship, then we must open our hearts to the word of God, to receive God’s grace, and to convert so that Jesus can make our hearts more like his.
