Today’s first reading provides us with a good example of what it means to convert. The process is apparent when we look at the life of the Ethiopian eunuch. He begins by reading the bible, because, I suspect, in some way was curious about this “new way.” But his understanding is limited, until Philip accompanies him in his journey, sharing both his personal faith, and providing deeper understanding to Philip. Finally, the moment of conversion, where the eunuch is so convinced in his relationship with Jesus that he cannot put off, even for a moment, the grace of baptism. Would that we had such excitement in our following of Jesus.
Homily given on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Christian Brothers College High School in Town and Country, Missouri.
