Readings for Today

Sometimes we can fall into the trap of thinking that because Jesus loves us, it does not matter what we do.  Jesus loves us, and so always forgives us.  While it is true that God loves us, and it is true that God is rich in mercy, it does not mean that we can do whatever we want.  Sometimes, in fact quite often, our faith calls us to go the extra mile.  We cannot simply do whatever we please whenever we please.  We are called sometimes to go beyond.  We are called to say “no” to certain actions.  We are called to “turn the other cheek”.  We are called, in so many instances, to open more fully, our hearts to our God.

This is what the readings today call us to do.  To be witnesses to gospel love in a way that leads to conversion.  First, our own, then calling others to repentance as well.  It is not always easy to go the extra mile.  In fact, it often seem quite difficult, maybe even impossible at times.  But remember, with God’s grace, all things are possible.
