It was the Christmas gift to end all Christmas gifts. So important to me was this Christmas gift, that I pulled the “nuclear option” with my parents: “If you get me this gift, I will never need another gift from you ever again.” Wow. Of course, after a few months, this toy lost its luster, and it is today probably in some landfill somewhere. At the tender age of 7, I had not yet understood how to discern what gifts were really the important ones. It can be like that with God’s gifts too. We have all we need from God to make disciples, but we often think we are unprepared.
